Leicester fans are furious after Wesley Fofana suffered a suspected broken leg during the club's 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Villarreal.
The defender is being taken to a local hospital after being chopped down by a horrible scissor challenge from Fer Nino at the King Power Stadium.
Fofana, 20, went down straight away with what looked like a broken leg or ankle.
Realising the extent of his injury, Fofana called to the bench immediately, with physios and paramedics rushing onto the field.
James Maddison could be seen watching on with his head in his hands as his team-mate was tended to by medics.
After receiving five minutes of treatment on the pitch, the former Saint-Etienne man was taken off on a stretcher to a standing ovation from the 17,000 fans inside the stadium.
Foxes fans were understandably furious about the tackle in what was supposed to be a 'friendly' game and took to social media to vent their disgust at the tackle.
"Wesley Fofana leg break You don’t make tackles like that in a preseason game, that’s fofana’s season over," was the view of one fan
Someone else said: "Why the hell are you tackling like this in a friendly?!?! Fofana’s leg is broken and he’s now going to miss most of the season. Disgraceful!"
A third supporter added: "This guy has just broken Wesley Fofana’s leg with a stupid tackle in a preseason friendly. It looked VERY intentional too.
Another Twitter user chimed in with: "Sickening “tackle” by Nino that broke Fofana’s leg. That’s his season over… It’s a friendly for Christ’s sake!"
One supporter commented: "That tackle on Fofana is an absolute disgrace. Villarreal have been absolutely filthy this preseason, they were flying in against Marseille on the weekend too. Wrong ‘uns."
Fofana's injury leaves Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers facing a centre-back shortage just days before the start of the new Premier League season.
The Foxes were already mulling over bringing in reinforcements at the back with Jonny Evans still suffering from a foot problem that kept him out towards the end of last season.
But now it seems certain that they will have to delve into the market.
