Fans love ‘retro vibes’ as Clive Tyldesley & Andy Townsend cover Liverpool game

Amazon Prime Video viewers hailed the "retro vibes" of Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend as they commentated Aston Villa vs Liverpool.

The pair have worked together for decades, most prominently for ITV, but the rise of Sky Sports and BT Sport have seen them feature on our screens less in recent years. They've reunited for Amazon's Premier League coverage, though.

And fans were loving hearing them as they tuned in to watch Villa host Liverpool on the streaming service. One tweeted: "Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend back together, the glory days are here again."

A second pleaded: "Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend on comms every week, please!" And a third wrote: "Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend giving me retro ITV vibes. Not a bad thing at all."

Another echoed: "Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend on the Amazon Prime commentary for Villa Vs Liverpool. Just gives me the old days of ITV Champions League football. #Nostalgia #FootballHeritage."

One commented: "The legendary combination of pundits Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend, on Prime. Brimming with info, stats, analysis, historical data. Tyldesley was dropped at the World Cup."

"Can Sky Sports and BT f*** off forever so we can keep Prime? Tyldesley and Townsend? Elite," asked one, while another posted: "Clive Tyldesley is just the best. He always sounds like he's loving every minute of his job. What a voice and what a guy!"

Tyldesley is widely regarded as one of the best commentators of all-time and there was mass outrage when he was demoted from ITV's No1 spot and replaced by Sam Matterface in July 2020.

The 68-year-old has since branched out to work on CBS Sports' coverage of the Champions League, Rangers' in-house TV service, and Amazon's Prem pickings.
