Forest Green star Jamille Matt suffered a gruesome broken wrist just one minute into their League Two clash with Bolton on Saturday.
Mark Cooper’s men are looking to record their first win in three games against the Wanderers, who can leapfrog them up into third place by claiming victory at the New Lawn.
However, Rovers were dealt a huge blow just a minute into their promotion battle when top scorer Matt was forced off with a horror injury.
The striker, who has bagged 16 goals in 35 games this season, saw his wrist bend in the complete wrong direction following a collision with an opponent.
He was left in visible agony from the injury, which looked like a break or dislocation of his hand.
As well as being being extremely painful for Matt, the break comes as a major setback for Rovers in their crucial showdown with a fellow promotion hopeful.
Cooper was well aware of the threat Bolton will pose heading into their six-pointer, praising their rivals’ January transfer business.
“They had a big recruitment drive in the summer and then they changed their recruitment policy before Christmas and they had another big recruitment drive in January,” he told Rovers' website.
“They players they’ve brought in in January have really helped them and given them the quality to kick on. They’ve got quality throughout their team and their squad.

“They’re on a good run and good runs are there to be ended but we’re really looking forward to the game, we can’t wait for it. It’s a great game for us.”
Rovers currently sit third in League Two on 63 points, just two adrift of leaders Cheltenham, while Bolton find themselves down in fifth on 61 points.
