Frank Lampard says Chelsea’s mega summer spending has changed the face of the Premier League.

Edouard Mendy’s impending arrival from Rennes for up to £25m will make this the club’s biggest transfer window ever, with over £230m spent.

And Lampard admits he is now under pressure to win the title – despite his team finishing 33 points behind Liverpool last season.

The Blues boss said: “It changes the landscape, yes, but I am excited by that as much as feeling the pressure. I understand the different nature of the pressure coming this year.

“It is why I love doing it. I didn't come into this job to fight for fourth place, although I know last year that it was an achievement.

“I didn't come in to just bring Academy players into the first-team and say I gave debuts to this many players, I came here to win.

“I know expectations will be there. I won't hide away from that. My expectations are on a different level from last year.

“Other people can talk about whether we challenge or not. We finished a lot of points behind Liverpool.

“We have to first look at closing the gap. I’m not jumping ahead and making any predictions.”

New boys Timo Werner and Kai Havertz could make their debuts at Brighton on Monday but Hakim Ziyech has a knee injury while Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell aren’t match fit.

Lampard said: “We should be excited, but we should also have a slight word of caution. It doesn't work that simply bringing in players means you win.

“I am not going to lie, we have brought in a high level of player. At the same time, I also know what it takes to win the Premier League.”
