Frank Lampard hands Chelsea star No.10 shirt in show of faith amid new arrivals

Chelsea have a new No.10 following Willian's departure with Frank Lampard trusting Christian Pulisic with the iconic number.

The American enjoyed an excellent end to the campaign following an indifferent start.

A host of quality names have arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer including Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

But Lampard has shown huge faith in Pulisic by giving him the number formerly worn by Willian, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata.

The former Borussia Dortmund man wore the No 22 shirt during his debut season in west London.

Pulisic scored 11 times in all competitions last term which included the opener in Chelsea's FA Cup Final defeat and a hat-trick at Burnley.

The decision to award him the No.10 will come as a blow to Callum Hudson-Odoi however, who has long pursued the coveted number.

He was offered it by Bayern Munich as they looked to lure him to Germany 18 months ago before he extended his stay in west London.

Pulisic's No.22 will now be taken by summer new boy Ziyech, who joined from Ajax.

The Moroccan wore the same number in Amsterdam and has opted to continue the theme.

Werner, who scored 30 goals for RB Leipzig last season, will don the No 11 shirt previously worn by star striker Didier Drogba.

Havertz, the latest big name to join Chelsea, has worn No.29 throughout his career.

Currently Fikayo Tomori occupies that number but the German is understood to have requested it should the defender go out on loan this season.

Chelsea will begin their season with a trip to Brighton before they host champions Liverpool.

Lampard is now spoilt for attacking options and his first line-up will be telling.
