Gabriel Magalhaes teammate drops big hint on Arsenal target’s future destination

Gabriel Magalhaes' Lille teammate Jose Fonte has dropped a major hint that the centre-back would favour a move to Arsenal this summer.

The 22-year-old appears certain to leave the French side in the coming weeks, and it is believed the Gunners have agreed a £22m deal to sign the player.

Serie A outfit Napoli are also thought to be in the hunt, however, and it looks like it will ultimately be down to Gabriel to decide where he wants to go.

And Fonte, formerly of Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham, has revealed that Gabriel has asked him about his experiences playing in the Premier League – which may suggest he is leaning towards north London as opposed to Italy.

Speaking to talkSPORT , Fonte said: "I think it’s quite public, to be honest. The club have allowed him to speak with other clubs and he’s in the process of moving.

"It’s just about him choosing which club, which is a great position to be in. He just needs to choose where he wants to go so that’s fantastic.

"They are all good clubs so I’m very happy for him. He’s a great player. We need to understand that it’s every player’s dream to play in the Premier League and he’s been asking questions about the Premier League and clubs in the Premier League so I try to give the best and honest opinions.

"Hopefully he will make his decision and he will be very successful with it. I have no doubt about it."

Gabriel had a big part to play in Lille's 2019/20 campaign, and featured for the full 90 minutes in all six of their Champions League games earlier in the season.

Mikel Arteta is known to be keen on bolstering his back line, and clearly sees the Brazilian as the perfect candidate.
