Garth Crooks SNUBS Mo Salah in his team of the year

Garth Crooks SNUBS Mo Salah in his team of 2021 as he instead opts for Bukayo Saka in his place… and he chooses BOTH Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold in his selection

  • Garth Crooks has chosen his Premier League Team of the Year for 2021
  • He has omitted Mo Salah who has scored 15 goals and provided nine assists
  • The team is dominated by five players from champions Manchester City
  • Liverpool, West Ham, Arsenal and Chelsea players are also included

Liverpool star Mo Salah would make many people’s Team of the Year on the back of his stunning performances for the Reds in 2021.

The Egyptian forward has scored more goals and provided as many assists as any other player in the league this season, with many suggesting he is the best player in the world at present.

However, BBC pundit Garth Crooks has surprisingly omitted the 29-year-old from his Premier League Team of the Year.

Mo Salah has been left out of BBC pundit Garth Crooks’ Premier League Team of the Year

Crooks has instead opted for Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka on the right side of his preferred attack

Crooks has chosen five Manchester City players, two from both Chelsea and West Ham and one each from Liverpool and West Ham for his selection.

Salah, who has scored 24 league goals in 2021 including 15 in his opening 19 games this season, has been left out in place of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

The Arsenal star has enjoyed a fantastic season but has scored just eight league goals in 2021 – five of those coming this campaign.

Crook didn’t explain his Salah omission but said about Saka: ‘He’s handled the disappointment of his penalty miss in the Euro 2020 final brilliantly. This was helped, of course, by the support Saka received from fans all over the country whenever he appeared for the Gunners.

Right-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James have both made 11-man selection

‘The Arsenal star has been consistently outstanding throughout the year and has easily been the Gunners’ best player. His two goals at Norwich were testament to why Arsenal have put an amazing run together and find themselves sitting comfortably in the top four.

‘He’s still only 20 and sadly too young to take the captain’s armband, but it’s only a matter of time.’

Another surprising inclusion is that of both Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold in his selection.

The Liverpool star is on the right of a back-three also consisting Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Dias.

While James who unlike Alexander-Arnold has played on the right of a back-three, is part of a midfield four including Declan Rice, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.

Ederson is his choice for goalkeeper, while Michail Antonio and Phil Foden are part of his front-three.
