Gary Neville blasts Man Utd star Antony for ’embarrassing’ antics vs Man City
Gary Neville did not mince his words as he tore into Antony for kicking out at Jeremy Doku during the closing stages of the Manchester derby. United were comfortably beaten by their local rivals at Old Trafford, with an Erling Haaland brace helping City on their way before Phil Foden wrapped up the result with a late goal of his own.
United’s players began to grow frustrated during the latter stages of the match after failing to lay a glove on City for the majority of the contest. Antony, who came on for Christian Eriksen with four minutes remaining, was particularly riled up and lashed out at Doku as the pair battled for possession in stoppage time.
The Brazilian winger tripped his opposite number before squaring up to him in the aftermath, which earned him a yellow card for his troubles. Neville was left furious by the incident and even suggested that Antony should have been sent off as he gave his immediate reaction live on Sky Sports.
“Doku’s absolutely right, Antony just has a kick at him,” said Neville, who was on co-commentary duties alongside Peter Drury. “Absolutely right, Doku. United have lost their discipline. That’s absolutely ridiculous, I’d just send him off. It’s absolutely ridiculous from Antony, it’s embarrassing.”
