Gary Neville has named his all-time foreign Manchester United XI, with Bruno Fernandes already making the cut just nine months after his move from Sporting Lisbon.

Fernandes, 26, has made a significant impact at Old Trafford since arriving from Sporting back in January, registering 16 goals and 11 assists in 28 appearances.

The Portuguese midfielder has become a crucial member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side – and Neville believes he is already one of the greatest foreign stars in United’s history.

When asked to pick an ultimate Red Devils XI that doesn’t include English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish or Northern Irish players on Twitter, the former United right-back selected Fernandes alongside Juan-Sebastian Veron in midfield.

Veron is certainly a surprising choice given he failed to live up to expectations in 82 appearances for United before being sold to Chelsea in 2003, while Fernandes has not yet completed a full season at the club.

Neville opted for Peter Schmeichel in between the sticks, a much more understandable inclusion given he remains one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history.

Rafael, Jaap Stam, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra make up the back four, with Fernandes and Veron positioned ahead of them in a two-man central midfield.

Out wide, of course there is a place for all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo on the right, while Carlos Tevez has done well to keep Nani out on the left.

Neville had a wealth of strikers to choose from at the pinpoint of his attack, but in the end he deployed Eric Cantona and Ruud van Nistelrooy as his two-man partnership up top; with no room for Robin van Persie, Dwight Yorke, Dimitar Berbatov or even current United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Van Nistelrooy remains United’s leading foreign goalscorer, having scored 150 times in 219 appearances for the club.

Solskjaer is not far behind with 127 goals in 365 games, coming before Ronaldo with 118 goals in 292 matches.

The likes of Edwin van der Sar, Anderson, and Andrei Kanchelskis can also count themselves unfortunate not to have been included.
