Georginio Wijnaldum has ‘shook hands on transfer’ as Liverpool exit nears

Georginio Wijnaldum has agreed on a transfer to Inter Milan according to reports in Italy.

The Liverpool midfielder's contract is winding down and he will be free to leave Anfield in the summer.

Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona, which would allow him to reunite with Ronald Koeman.

But Inter are also keen on the Dutchman and the club's sporting director Guiseppe Marotta has made moves to sign the 30-year-old.

“It’s a low-profile and free agents market: Marotta therefore looks to Georginio Wijnaldum,” claimed Sports Mediaset's Claudio Raimond via Sport Witness.

Journalist Sandro Sabatini has also claimed that: "Inter already have a handshake with Wijnaldum, already from last year. Then they decided to do it on a free transfer.”

Wijnaldum has continued to be a regular for the Reds this term despite his uncertain future.

The Dutchman was Jurgen Klopp's first summer signing back in 2016.

The midfielder was quizzed on his future in January but Sky Sports and said: “There is no update yet.

“I also think I’m not the one who should give the update. The club should do that. So if there is an update, the club will give it.”

It means Wijnaldum's final months as a Liverpool player could be spent trying to fire them into the Champions League.

A poor run of form has seen the Reds slide down the table and they are in danger of missing out on the top four.

A win at Sheffield United snapped a four-game losing streak and Wijnaldum is hopeful that it came propel them forward.

"Yes, and that’s what we have to do if we want to finish in the top four," he told the club's official website.

"We have to put a run together and just hope the teams above us slip.

"We can only control our own performances so we have to look at it game by game, give everything and try to win the games."
