Guardiola risks wrath of Man City fans with noise comment after Liverpool draw
Pep Guardiola took a fresh swipe at Manchester City fans following his side’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out Erling Haaland’s 50th Premier League goal as Liverpool grabbed a point against champions. The England international struck 10 minutes from the end of a tight encounter at the Etihad after Haaland’s landmark strike looked like extending City’s record winning run at home.
City had won their previous 23 games on home turf in all competitions, a run dating back to a visit from Everton on New Year’s Eve. It seems Guardiola believes supporters have taken that record for granted, judging by his comments after the game.

Asked why he had been gesturing to supporters during the game, Guardiola said: “I wanted some more noise, it felt very still. A little bit more, but maybe we’ll have to play a bit better to make them move a bit more."
It’s not the first time Guardiola has criticised fans for the lack of noise in the Etihad. After a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Tottenham last season, he complained: “Our fans were silent for 45 minutes. I want my fans back. I want my fans that are here – not my away fans, they are the best – but my fans here to support every corner and every action.”

Guardiola was also spotted trying to cajole the supporters into making more noise during a win over West Ham in May as City closed in on the title.
As for today’s heavyweight showdown, Alexander-Arnold’s late equaliser spared the blushes of goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who had a day to forget having gifted Haaland his opener and committed several other errors. Haaland had shown no mercy as he netted in the 27th minute, reaching his half-century of goals in the competition in just his 48th appearance, a new record.
