- Alan Shearer hailed the pair as ‘unplayable’ on Match of the Day
Alan Shearer described Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne as ‘unplayable’ as they ‘bullied’ Arsenal to give Manchester City command of the title race.
City smashed the Gunners 4-1 to move two points behind the leaders with two games in hand entering the run-in.
De Bruyne and Haaland worked superbly in tandem, with the Belgian scoring twice from the Norwegian’s assists. Haaland then scored his 49th goal of an incredible season to wrap up the win.
Pep Guardiola’s side are now favourites to overtake Arsenal and retain their Premier League crown – and they could yet add the FA Cup and the Champions League in a historic Treble.
Haaland also has eight assists for the season, while De Bruyne has contributed 24 assists and nine goals, and Shearer said Arsenal defenders Rob Holding and Gabriel Magalhaes simply had no answer.

‘They were unplayable tonight, they bullied the two centre-halves Gabriel and Rob Holding,’ he said on Match of the Day.
‘Every time the ball went up, their understanding to know when, how and where to run, the timing and then the finish.
‘They were never too far from each other, De Bruyne was always within five, ten yards of Haaland.
‘It was a magnificent performance from start to finish from Man City, they totally dominated every position. Some of the play tonight was absolutely magnificent.
‘Haaland was too strong, he got one goal, he could have or should have had three or four. His finishing tonight wasn’t like it has been the rest of the season.
‘Arsenal just couldn’t cope with them tonight, they did bully them.’
Rio Ferdinand, speaking on BT Sport, also praised De Bruyne after another special performance.
‘De Bruyne again, 24 assist, best in a season, he has been phenomenal,’ he said.

‘When you look for the big moments in a season this guy has come up so many times in the past and done it again today.’
City could have made it an even greater humiliation for their title races, with a number of wasted chances as well as the four goals they did score.
De Bruyne spoke about Guardiola’s tactical set-up, which worked to excellent effect.
‘I think we set up a bit differently – instead of two No 8s, I had the freedom to go left or right, depending on where the space was,’ he told BT Sport.
‘When they played man-to-man, we had to go a bit longer because there was no place for short passes. The first-half was really good.
‘We could have scored more. The second-half was 50-50 but we didn’t give much away.
‘They’re a class team and hard to play against. We had to be at our best today – and we were.’
City continue their push for the title at Fulham on Sunday, while Arsenal aren’t in action until they entertain Chelsea next Tuesday.
