Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has been slammed by fans for his ‘shameless’ dive that earned a last-minute penalty in their 3-3 friendly draw against Barcelona – with one fan claiming he could have ‘won a gold medal’.
City secured a draw in the 99th minute after Riyad Mahrez’s penalty, but it was won thanks to some theatricality from City’s new signing Haaland, who appeared to go down in the area despite minimal contact from former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
Fans were left baffled by Haaland behaviour at the end of the game, which was played in aid of ALS awareness in honour of former Barcelona goalkeeper and coach Juan Carlos Unzue, who was diagnosed with ALS two years ago.

Fans slammed the City striker’s behaviour during the friendly match as ‘ridiculous’
The Norwegian star riled fans up even more given his delayed reaction to what he felt was contact with Christensen – as he looked back over his shoulder before falling to the turf, about three seconds after running past him.
‘How on earth was that a pen?’ wrote one fan. ‘Haaland should have won a gold medal for that dive.’
Another said: ‘Nah that dive from Haaland was just ridiculous.’
Haaland’s behaviour was labelled by another as ‘shameless’.
‘Haaland wtf man that’s the most shameless dive I’ve ever seen,’ he said.
One supporter suggested that the offence was worthy of a red card, while another ranted: ‘This is the reason why I hate this sport sometimes. Diving is not a strategy, it’s a disgrace.’
Haaland irked Barcelona fans in particular with his dive – given that the home faithful had stood to applaud the £53m striker while he was warming up.
‘Is that what you get for applauding a player?’ asked a Barcelona fan. ‘What a dive by Haaland!’
Riyad Mahrez’s 99th minute penalty ensured a 3-3 draw for Manchester City at Barcelona
It was an action packed game in a six-goal thriller that saw Julian Alvarez open the scoring against Xavi’s men.
Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then levelled the game before Frenkie de Jong put the LaLiga giants ahead.
Cole Palmer made it 2-2 before Memphis Depay added a third with ten minutes to go. There was a lengthy stoppage time due to Luke Mbete clashing heads with Christensen and Haaland ensured City left with a draw. He went down easily in the box – but the referee still pointed to the spot – and Mahrez slotted it home.
