FC Halifax Town star Jamie Allen has walked away from the National League side's pre-season preparations to join the Love Island cast.

The hit reality TV show is coming to a close, but Allen appears to be a late arrival to the villa. FC Halifax Town tweeted: "Jamie Allen has decided to join the cast of Love Island 2022, making his intentions clear that the opportunity is very important to him.

"The matter will be reviewed on his return." Allen penned a new deal with the Shaymen just last month, extending his stay into his fourth season, and fans have ripped into him for his decision to join Love Island.

One fan joked: "Arsenal fans praying Ben White doesn't get any ideas…"

"One of our promotion rivals losing a player to Love Island is the news we didn’t know we needed today. What a league," another added. While a third tweeted: "The sports finished, grown men choosing that s*** over football."

A fourth joked: "Imagine you're managing non-league on Football Manager and one of your best players leaves to go on LOVE ISLAND!"

Allen is set to appear in the villa on Wednesday evening as one of four new 'bombshells'. He has been quoted saying: “I shoot, I usually score. If I want something, I’ll go and get it.”

Allen is not the first footballer to appear on the TV show, but alongside Dennon Lewis – who also played in the fifth tier when he appeared – he is the joint-highest up the footballing pyramid.
