Hansi Flick announces he will LEAVE Bayern Munich

Hansi Flick announces he will LEAVE Bayern Munich at the end of the season amid links to the Germany job after being left frustrated over last summer’s transfer dealings… and he told his squad of the news today!

  • Hansi Flick will leave Bayern Munich after falling out with the sporting director
  • He fell out with Hasan Salihamidzic over the club’s transfer dealings last summer
  • Flick was annoyed with how the club allowed their star Thiago Alcantara to leave
  • He was also irritated by Bayern’s inability to find cover for Robert Lewandowski

Hansi Flick has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season after falling out with the club’s sporting director.

The Bayern boss – who led club to success in the Champions League in 2020 – has asked the club to terminate his contract early after several disagreements with Hasan Salihamidzic over last summer’s transfer dealings.

The 56-year-old – who is currently contracted until the summer of 2023 – was frustrated with how the club allowed Thiago Alcantara to leave and failed to find suitable cover for their star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, he said: ‘I told the team today that I informed the club during the week, after the game in Paris, I would like to terminate my contract at the end of the season.’

He added that becoming Germany’s new manager in the summer remains ‘an option’.

Flick has been touted to take over from Joachim Low as the head coach of the Germany national team.

The Bayern manager fell out with Hasan Salihamidzic over the club’s transfer dealings

Low recently announced that he will step down from his role as Germany manager following Euro 2020 after asking to end his contract early.

As a result, Flick has been named as a potential successor to Low – who will be leaving the international side after 15 years at the helm.

Having taken over from Niko Kovac in November 2019, Flick has won six trophies in 18 months with the Bundesliga side.

Such a track record positions him at the top of the candidate shortlist – according to German legend Matthaus.

Matthaus believes that Bayern’s Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain was a catalyst for his departure.

He said: ‘I already said two weeks ago that in my opinion, this is Hansi Flick’s last season,’ he said. ‘I’ve said that Hansi Flick is right at the top of the DFB [German Football Federation] list, and then nothing else for a long time. There’s an offer from the DFB, yes.

‘So, they want Hansi Flick and I think – or rather, I’m convinced – that Hansi Flick will no longer be Bayern coach after this season.

‘That means the last game against Augsburg at home will be Hansi Flick’s last game as head coach of Bayern.’

RB Leipzig boss Julien Nagelsmann had previously been linked with Bayern job

RB Leipzig manager Julien Nagelsmann has subsequently been linked with Bayern job.

Prior to Flick’s announcement, Nagelsmann insisted he was happy at RB Leipzig and that he nor his representatives had held talks with the Bundesliga leaders.

Nagelsmann has impressed since taking the reigns at Leipzig in 2019, having guided them to the semi final of the Champions League last season.
