Harry Kane made a mockery of Man Utd ‘scouting trip’ as Ten Hag rues decision

'Man Utd deserved their point' | Liverpool couldn't break down Erik ten Hag's side

Just a few months on from Manchester United missing out on signing Harry Kane and ending up with Rasmus Hojlund, the England captain is still hindering the Red Devils’ transfer plans. United scouts recently headed out to Germany to watch one of their January targets, but instead Kane showed Erik ten Hag’s staff exactly what they were missing.

90min claim that United scouts were in attendance for Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Stuttgart, but it was Kane’s opposite number that they were running the rule over. Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy has been in prolific form this season, scoring 16 goals in 13 Bundesliga appearances – only bettered by Kane’s 20.

United officials had travelled to Bavaria to take a closer look at Guirassy, but he was unable to keep up his incredible scoring run. Kane scored twice, including the opener in the second minute, as they moved within four points of Xabi Alonso’s table-topping Bayer Leverkusen.

Guirassy instead was kept quiet by Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, with United scouts likely left unimpressed as the club continue in their search for more firepower. After failing to sign Kane from Tottenham, Hojlund was brought in from Atalanta for £72million but he is yet to score his first Premier League goal.

Only five teams have scored fewer goals in the English top flight than United this season, with Ten Hag’s outfit hitting the back of the net just 18 times in 17 matches following their 0-0 draw away to Liverpool on Sunday.

United have had their eye on Guirassy following his sparkling start to the season, especially as the Guinea international has a release clause of just £15m following Stuttgart’s promotion to the Bundesliga last season.

They face competition from the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham for his signature, however. The Hammers were also in attendance for Stuttgart’s defeat to Bayern, accompanied by Fulham and AC Milan, though it is not specified as to the subject of their visits.

Guirassy has already opened the door to a potential Premier League move, admitting he would like to make the switch to England. However, he did not rule out seeing the remainder of the season out with Stuttgart and after his display against Kane’s Bayern it remains to be seen whether United will step up their interest.

“I cannot hide these things – everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world,” he told the Guardian. “But at this time I don’t close any doors. There are some very big teams in Europe and it’s not focused only on the Premier League. At Stuttgart we have such a good team and everything is possible in football. If we can continue to be humble like we have been so far then we have a good chance.”
