Henrikh Mkhitaryan punched by Mohamed Ali Camara in Europa League

Former Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan is PUNCHED by Young Boys’ Mohamed Ali Camara after a tussle on the touchline during Europa League clash… with defender shown a straight red for violent conduct

  • Roma sealed top spot in Europa League Group A with victory over Young Boys
  • Roma had just gone 3-1 up when an incident occurred in the 82nd minute
  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mohamed Ali Camara were jostling for the ball
  • But the Young Boys defender lashed out, striking Mkhitaryan and he was sent off

Young Boys defender Mohamed Ali Camara lost his rag late on against Roma and was sent off after striking Roma forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the face.

The Serie A side had just gone 3-1 up in their Europa League clash and were well on their way to topping Group A as a result.

But in the 82nd minute, with Mkhitaryan and Camara jostling for the ball near the touchline, the Guinean centre back lost his cool and lashed out at the Roma forward, who went down theatrically – the Young Boys defender was immediately shown a red card.

The Roma forward went down dramatically before the referee rushed over to intervene

A melee then ensued between players on both teams after Camara was shown a red card

The Armenian rose to his feet straight away and attempted to confront Camara, with the referee separating the two players.

A melee then ensued with players from both teams involved, before an angry Camara was eventually guided from the field of play.

Ex-Arsenal and Manchester United attacker Mkhitaryan was unhurt during the incident and was able to finish the game, having come on as a substitute at half-time.

It marked an unsavoury end to a decent contest in the Stadio Olimpico and despite the defeat, Swiss side Young Boys are still in position to qualify for the knockout-stages, provided they don’t lose to CFR Cluj next week.

Mkhitaryan came on as a substitute but was heavily involved in the game’s standout incident

On Thursday night, the visitors actually took the lead in the 34th minute through Jean-Pierre Nsame, but Roma equalised on the stroke of half-time via Borja Mayoral.

Young star Riccardo Calafiori, 18, made it 2-1 in the 59th minute before former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko wrapped up all three points for Roma with nine minutes left on the clock.

On 13 points after five games, Roma now have a dead rubber next week against CSKA Sofia to conclude their group-stage campaign.
