Houssem Aouar to Arsenal transfer receives boost after Lyon identify replacement

Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar after Lyon identified a replacement for him.

The Gunners have been splashing out with Mikel Arteta in charge, who has already signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.

Signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been a priority, while the Spaniard wants to revamp his midfield.

Aouar has caught the attention of football's biggest names in recent years, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all linked with England alone.

But Arsenal are leading the charge for the 22-year-old, with Arteta reportedly 'obsessed' with bringing him to the Emirates.

Lyon have always been reluctant to lose their academy graduate.

However, ultimately, they would be powerless should a big enough bid come in.

And they have already taken the next steps to prepare for Aouar's departure after identifying his replacement.

According to CalcioMercato, AC Milan star Lucas Paqueta is being eyed by the French club to join.

The Brazilian was left in Italy as the squad jetted off to face Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League.

Lyon have yet to enter discussions for the 23-year-old but are said to be keen on signing him.

Aouar is reportedly desperate to move to the Emirates after holding numerous talks with agents.

It follows on from the news that the France international has already agreed personal terms two weeks ago.

Signing Aouar would be a massive coup for the Gunners, who are enjoying a return to form under Arteta.

And French football expert ESPN pundit Laurens also stated how Aouar would fit into Arsenal's starting XI.

He believes there would be a tactical tweak from Arteta, saying: “I think the idea is to move to a 4-3-3 anyway at some time and then Aouar could play in midfield. Aouar can play in a 3-4-3, in the two in midfield.
