Arsenal have made a first bid for Lyon star Houssem Aouar, according to Le10 Sport. The France international was wanted by Mikel Arteta a year ago and, now, the Spaniard’s side have made their move. So, with that the case, it’s time to look at what Aouar has said about his future and a potential move to north London.
Earlier on Tuesday, Aouar hit out at rumours he’d missed Lyon training in order to force through a transfer.
“Once again, unfortunately another fake news was published across social media,” the Lyon star said in a statement.
“I don’t usually answer what’s been said about me… I was sick and hospitalised over the weekend.
“I am doing much better now and I am ready for what comes next.
“Thank you to those who have always supported me, in the good as well as in the mad moments. Go OL!”

Speaking in October, Aouar insisted he’s made the right decision to stay at Lyon amid interest from Arsenal.
“Of course, I asked myself all the necessary questions,” said the midfielder.
“I am in the headspace to have a great season with my club and recover the points that we have lost.
“So, of course, we are going to try have the best season and to try to put the team and the club back in its rightful place at the top of France.”
On whether he was disappointed, he added: “I’m the opposite. I am at home, in the club that I love, with my friends and my family.

“So certainly I have all my bearings and it is giving me even more motivation to have a good season.
“I want to bring the club back to the top places in Ligue 1.
“There is a lot of motivation, we have a quality group, with a very good team. Most notably in attack with certain arrivals.
“We have satisfied with this team but now we are going to have to show it on the pitch a bit more than we have done at the beginning of this season.”

Aouar also made it clear that he’d been convinced into staying at Lyon after positive talks with Jorginho, the club’s sporting director.
“I spoke a lot with [Lyon sporting director] Juninho,” he said.
“He shows me his confidence every day: it’s a real pleasure to work with him.
“To stay here for another season, or more, with him, it’s a great pride.
“I’m happy to stay in Lyon. It’s my city, my club: it’s a great pride to represent OL.
“It wasn’t necessarily Arsenal or nothing else, even though at the end it was basically that. “I had to make a decision and I am happy to stay here.”
What the report said
Le10 Sport claimed that Arsenal had submitted a first bid for Aouar.
However, the publication fails to disclose the fee – instead saying Lyon want a fee in the region of £18million to £23m in order to part ways with their prized asset.
Whether Arsenal go that high remains to be seen.
But there certainly seems to be a determination on Arteta’s part to get a deal done at the second time of asking.
If Arsenal are successful, it’s likely they’ll deploy the playmaker alongside Thomas Partey in the heart of their midfield next term.
