Tottenham have been made aware that Inter Milan will be willing to do a deal for Denzel Dumfries at a price of over £26.5m (€30m), according to reports. The Netherlands wing-back is also a target for Chelsea but Spurs could look to strike an agreement in January.
Antonio Conte has not been content with his choices at wing-back since he became Spurs boss in late 2021. Emerson Royal has often been the chosen player on the right-hand side ahead of Matt Doherty.
Djed Spence was brought in from Middlesbrough in the summer but has barely had a look in under Conte. Emerson has featured in 12 of Spurs’ 16 Premier League matches this season, starting 11, and missed three due to suspension.
But it could be a case of one in, one out in January. Italian football reporter Rudy Galetti claims Tottenham could sell Emerson in the winter window, either outright or sending him on loan with the option to buy.
But that would likely only be the case if Conte can bring in a replacement. The report claims Dumfries has remained a target for Conte.
Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro is also a target for Tottenham in that position. But Sporting want the player’s full release clause of just under £40m paid.
Dumfries looks to be a cheaper option for the north London club. Galetti claims Inter would be willing to do business for as little as £26.5m and have informed Tottenham of that fact.
The 26-year-old only joined Inter in the summer of 2021, a couple of months after Conte left his role as head coach of the Serie A giants. He is a key member of Simone Inzaghi’s side and still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

But speculation over his future continues ahead of the January window opening. Chelsea have been linked strongly with Dumfries’ signature.
Reece James’ injury problems have often left Graham Potter short of options on the right. James is set for a further month on the sidelines after suffering another knee problem in his comeback game against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Dumfries was asked about links to Chelsea during the World Cup. But he insisted he was focused on performing for club and country.
Dumfries said: “Of course it’s a big compliment to be linked with Chelsea, but playing for Inter is a big compliment too. Chelsea move in January? I’m focused on nothing else but the national team and Inter.”
