Jadon Sancho transfer alternative branded 'good option' for Man Utd by Rivaldo

Rivaldo says Barcelona flop Ousmane Dembele could be a ‘good option’ for Manchester United with Borussia Dortmund blocking their move for Jadon Sancho.

The England international has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford all summer, however, United failed to meet the Bundesliga outfit’s £108 million valuation before their August 10 deadline.

Sancho talked up the ‘special’ qualities of his Dortmund team-mates earlier this week, while Dortmund chiefs have reiterated that they expect the 20-year-old to remain at the club next season.

Reports claim that Dembele has been identified as a backup option and informal talks have already taken place.

The Frenchman has struggled to live up to his exorbitant £135.5 million price tag since moving to Barca from Dortmund in 2017.

After injury problems and disciplinary issues, the 23-year-old has made just nine appearances across all competitions this season, last featuring in November.

The young forward was a surprise inclusion in Barcelona’s squad to face Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarter-final match on Friday.

Brazil legend Rivaldo believes that with the uncertainty over Sancho, Dembele could be a viable alternative for United.

‘Ousmane Dembele has travelled with Barca to Lisbon and there is a chance we’ll see him play against Bayern,’ Rivaldo told Betfair.

‘He could be what I call a ‘joker’ for Barcelona, coming off the bench to effect the match, as he is very talented.

‘There are rumours about him leaving the club at the end of the season, but while he is around, the manager should use him.

‘Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in him after having difficulties in their bid to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

‘Dembele could be a good option for United. He’s very quick and talented, and I believe he could prosper in the Premier League.’
