Jadon Sancho transfer latest as Man Utd flop identified as Dortmund replacement

Dortmund are said to be considering a move for former Manchester United player Memphis Depay if Jadon Sancho makes the switch to Old Trafford.

Sancho is known to be the Red Devils' No.1 target this summer, and although the two clubs have yet to agree on a fee it appears likely the 20-year-old will become a United player in the near future.

Much may be dependent on whether Dortmund can find a suitable replacement, however, and according to German publication Bild Depay is one of the options they are considering.

The Dutch forward was signed by United in 2015 but never managed to show his full potential, and was sold to Lyon two years later after scoring just seven goals in 53 appearances.

Since then his form has improved, however, and he starred in Ligue 1 this season, scoring nine goals and creating two assists before the league was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He would likely cost around £40m, but considering Dortmund are likely to receive a huge fee for Sancho this should not prove to be a stumbling block.

They may face competition from the likes of Arsenal, however, who have also been linked with his signature.

Meanwhile Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc refused to rule out the sale of Sancho, but did say he hopes the player stays for at least one more year in Germany.

"Jadon is an outstanding footballer,’ said Zorc. "With his age he has a quota of goal participations that I have never seen before.

"I would be glad if he stayed with us this season. And he also has a contract!"

Sancho is said to be privately massively keen on a move back to Manchester, although he is also keeping an open mind given the current difficult financial situation caused by coronavirus.
