James Maddison said Ange Postecoglou’s confidence when he was discussing a move to Tottenham made him want to work for the Australian.

He said Postecoglou’s promise that things ‘are going to change at Tottenham’ whether he signed or not inspired him.

Maddison traded Leicester for London in a £45million summer move and has been in exhilarating form since, with three goals and five assists in all competitions.

Postecoglou has revitalised Tottenham, hauling them to first place in the Premier League with a mix of stylish football and charisma.

‘We obviously spoke about how I would fit into the way he plays and my style of play and what position and all that sort of detailed stuff,’ Maddison told A League of Their Own.

‘But he said at the end of it: “Well, really good to talk. But James, whether you decide to come or not, you’re going to see a completely different Tottenham team.

‘I just loved the confident that he said that with – you can come and be a part of it or you can go somewhere else and it’s still going to change at Tottenham anyway.

‘And that kind of just left that bit in my mind where I thought, yeah, I want to go and work for this guy.’

Unbeaten in ten games, Spurs have recorded their best-ever Premier League start and no manager has ever made a better start since the top flight was rebranded in 1992.

Spurs sit top of the table with 26 points but will be sternly tested in the next six fixtures against the likes of Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Chelsea.

Maddison won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August, while Postecoglou won the manager award for that month and September.
