Manchester United will be without Jesse Lingard for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Everton after he tested positive for Covid-19.
The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham and restored his reputation to such an extent that he only narrowly missed out on being included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
Lingard had been hoping to work his way back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans ahead of the new season and had already put in a couple of impressive displays against QPR and Derby County before this latest setback.
United are in action today against Everton at Old Trafford and will also face Leeds United on the opening weekend, but Lingard will now be unlikely to feature given he has entered a 10-day period of isolation in-line with government and Premier League guidelines.
