Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix has already revealed that he is a keen admirer of a surprise Premier League club as he continues to be linked with a January move to England. The 23-year-old is widely expected to leave the Spanish capital next month after falling out with Diego Simeone and has been mentioned in connection with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in advance of the upcoming transfer window.
Felix is thought to have emerged as a priority option for the Red Devils, who are on the lookout for at least one new forward after seeing long-term target Cody Gakpo join Liverpool following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of last month. Chelsea have also been credited with a desire to land Felix, while Arsenal are believed to be weighing up a move of their own as they seek a short-term replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.
However, it remains to be seen whether Felix would be open to joining any of the aforementioned clubs over the coming weeks, with his immediate future set to be resolved before the end of next month. He previously delivered an answer that few would have been expecting when asked to name his favourite English team in an interview with Adri Contreras by admitting that he is fond of Leeds United, although it seems highly unlikely that he will be joining the Yorkshire outfit any time soon.
It remains unclear why Felix decided to pick Leeds as his favourite English club, although it could be implied given his age that his admiration for the Whites began during Marcelo Bielsa’s time in charge. The 67-year-old transformed Leeds’ fortunes by taking them back into the Premier League while implementing a relentless and fast-paced style of play that earned plenty of acclaim from across the world of football.

Leeds are not expected to join the hunt for Felix between now and the end of the January window, though, leaving United, Chelsea and Arsenal as his most likely suitors in the mid-season market. Atletico Madrid would reportedly prefer to keep Felix on their books but have reluctantly decided to sell the Portuguese striker following the breakdown of his relationship with Simeone behind closed doors in recent weeks.
His departure would also help to balance the books at the club by shifting his wage bill after the Spanish giants were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages earlier this season. Felix became the second-most expensive teenager in history when he joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica three years ago and is still widely regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe, with no shortage of clubs lining up to battle it out for his signature next month.
Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin recently issued an important update on Felix’s situation by admitting that bids for the player will be considered in the January window, telling reporters: “[Felix] is the biggest bet this club has taken in its history. I personally think he’s a top talent, a world class player.
“For reasons it isn’t worth getting into, the relationship between him and the boss, the minutes played, his motivation right now, it makes you think that the reasonable thing is that if there’s an option that’s good for the player, good for the club, we can look at it. I’d love him to stay personally, but I don’t think that’s the player’s idea.”
