Jordan Pickford injury setback rules Everton star out of England duty

Jordan Pickford will miss England's World Cup qualifiers this month after suffering a recurrence of a rib injury.

The Everton keeper will also miss the Toffees' FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City on Saturday.

Pickford, 27, was taken off just before half-time in the Blues' weekend defeat by Burnley with the injury.

Pickford underwent a scan on Monday but doesn't need surgery.

The England No 1 missed four games last month with the same problem.

The club have described the injury as an issue with his oblique abdominal muscle.

Burnley stopper Nick Pope now looks set to start England's clashes with San Marino, Albania and Poland later this month.

Gareth Southgate's side are beginning their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Manchester United's Dean Henderson is also expected to be in the squad while West Brom's Sam Johnstone could get a call up to be third choice.

Everton confirmed Pickford will remain under the care of the club's medical staff during the international break.

They will hope he is fit to return to action against Crystal Palace on April 5 when the Premier League returns.

Toffees second-choice Robin Olsen returned to training last week but was not on the bench at the weekend.
