Jose Mourinho slammed Spurs players at training ground after sacking

Jose Mourinho criticised several Tottenham players at their training ground after he was sacked by the club on Monday, according to reports.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy made the decision to replace Mourinho at the start of this week following the team’s poor run of form in which they secured just one win in six matches.

Spurs’ hopes of securing a place in next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish looked uncertain due to their inconsistent performances.

And Mourinho’s hopes of landing a trophy were dealt a huge blow last month when Spurs were dumped out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

According to The Telegraph, Mourinho stayed at Spurs’ training ground for over four hours following his sacking.

And during that time, Mourinho is said to have told some ‘home truths’ to members of Spurs’squad.

Mourinho had no issue in publicly criticising his players in recent weeks during their dip in form. When asked who was to blame after Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Newcastle United earlier this month, Mourinho told the BBC: ‘Same coach, different players.’

Following the 2-1 defeat to West Ham in February, Mourinho also defended his methods and placed blame on Spurs’ players.

Asked if he felt the team’s slump was related to his management style, Mourinho replied: ‘No, not at all.

‘Mine and my coaching staff’s methods are second to nobody in the world.

‘I think for a long, long time, we have problems in the team that I cannot resolve by myself as a coach.’

Meanwhile, Spurs got off to a winning start under interim boss Ryan Mason as they sealed a 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday evening.

Gareth Bale, who scored Spurs’ second-half equaliser, suggested after the game that the team were set up to be more attacking following Mourinho’s departure.

‘Just to be on the front foot a bit more,’ said Bale.

‘We want to attack, we’re a big team, we have great players.’
