Jose Mourinho’s take on ‘top players’ after Alisson’s recent Liverpool blunders

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho used Hugo Lloris to explain that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is still a top player despite some high-profile blunders.

Alisson has been heavily criticised in recent games after making some major mistakes.

Last weekend he was at fault for two of Manchester City's goals as Liverpool's Premier League title defence capitulated in a 4-1 loss at Anfield.

The Brazilian then made another mistake against Leicester City on Saturday as he sprinted out of his goal but got nowhere near the ball, allowing Jamie Vardy to slot home.

But Mourinho believes Alisson is still one of the top goalkeepers in the world, as he explained in a defence of Lloris.

The Spurs goalkeeper has also faced criticism in the past for a series of blunders, but has always remained Tottenham's first-choice.

And Mourinho explained that he believes simply making a few errors doesn't change a goalkeeper's ability.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Mourinho heaped prais on the Liverpool stopper.

"When a player is a top player, it's not because of one mistake, or two or three, that they're not a top player anymore," he said.

"That, for me, is the most important thing. I shouldn't speak about him because he's not my goalkeeper, but I don't think he will take it on the wrong side.

"For me, Alisson is one of the top five best goalkeepers in the world.
