Jude Bellingham will leave Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and Manchester United will be one of the two main options for him, according to reports. United came close to signing Bellingham before he left Birmingham in the summer of 2020 and the Red Devils are set to provide competition to Liverpool for his signature.
Liverpool have been widely reported as strong admirers for the 19-year-old. A deal was not possible this year but many expect the Reds to pursue the England star at the end of this season.
Midfield is an area Jurgen Klopp is keen to improve in. Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara are all above the age of 30, while Fabinho turns 29 next month, so a youthful player such as Bellingham would be a welcome addition.
However, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg says Liverpool won’t have it all their own way. Plettenberg is convinced Bellingham will be leaving Dortmund but says United will be in the running too.
Plettenberg told Sky Sports: “Same situation with [Jadon] Sancho, [Erling] Haaland, now Bellingham. He’s an upcoming superstar player and I’m totally convinced he will leave Dortmund in 2023, maybe to Liverpool, maybe to Manchester United.
“I think these are two teams that can have very good chances to get him. Amazing player, amazing character and very good mentality.”
Bellingham is closing in on 100 first-team appearances for Dortmund despite only turning 19 in June. He is likely to be a key part of England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Plettenberg’s colleague Marc Behrenbeck says the teenager will cost upwards of £100million when he does leave Dortmund. Behrenbeck claims Dortmund’s hopes of keeping Bellingham for another year will be unsuccessful.

He said: “Borussia Dortmund’s trying to keep him for another year but I don’t think that’s possible. He will be a big move in the summer.
“As far as we know he doesn’t have a release clause but he wants to go back to England. For me he’s the best 19-year-old in the whole world at the moment.
“His attitude is really great and his skill set is perfect. So I think it will be a big move and without a release clause, £80m, £90m, £100m. Something like that.”
