Jurgen Klopp has outlined his excitement at the start of the Premier League season, insisting it is the beginning of a new era at the club.

It has been a busy summer at Liverpool with several high-profile and experienced stars such as Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and James Milner all departing.

But there have also been some exciting new signings with the addition of 22-year-old Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60million, along with Alexis Mac Allister, 24, from Brighton for £35m.

Similarly, the Reds hijacked Chelsea’s move for Moises Caicedo and agreed to a British record £111m deal for the Brighton midfielder.

Klopp’s side are desperate to bounce back from a disappointing campaign in 2022-23 that saw them come fifth and miss out on the Champions League for the first time in eight seasons, and the German is optimistic for the season ahead.

‘We have a new start, LFC reloaded,’ he told his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s away game with Liverpool.

‘It is an exciting thing. Everyone was asking for changes because we were together for a long time and things went really well and then not that well.

‘Timing is the biggest challenge in life finding the right moment, now it has happened and that is good.

‘It is a new chance for everybody but they have to step up. The new leadership group and not only them but those not in the group, the leadership is exceptional and the new guys are great.

‘It’s not that we should give ourselves too much time, let’s just do it. Take responsibility and be best version of yourself and help the team in best possible way.’

The Reds spent time in both Germany and Singapore in pre-season, securing wins against Karlsruher, Leicester and Darmstadt, while they drew with Greuther Furth and lost to Bayern Munich.

Despite the mixed results, Klopp was extremely happy with the work that had gone on.

He said: ‘I saw a lot of things where my thoughts were “we mean business”. My good feeling is based on the things I saw and the things we did in pre-season.

‘We weren’t happy with last season. It’s deep inside, I don’t need to remind them.

‘I enjoyed it (pre-season) a lot. The boys were open, listening and eyes and ears open. We did a lot not only on the pitch but meetings as well.

‘We really wanted to learn our game. It must be different, we want to go to next level in our game together.’

While he was addressing the media, Klopp also provided an update on the state of Liverpool’s move for Brighton star Caicedo.

Klopp’s side were hit by several shock departures such as Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq

He explained: ‘I’m told I can confirm that the deal with the club is agreed, whatever that means.

‘We have not endless resources, but we had a few things happen this summer that we didn’t expect. Hendo, Fab going.

‘Let’s see what happens and then we go from there. I don’t know [if there is a medical today].

‘Let’s talk about that if these kind of things happen, I really can’t say about that, that’s the truth.’
