Henrik Larsson is being seriously considered as a potential assistant to Ronald Koeman once the Dutchman is named as the new manager at Barcelona.

Although the former Everton boss is yet to be confirmed at the Nou Camp, president Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted the Dutchman will be named as Quique Setien’s replacement.

Setien was dismissed on Monday after leading his side to a humiliating 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final on Friday.

Larsson has been out of the game for a year after quitting his managerial role at Swedish side Helsingborgs.

Koeman and Larsson both have playing careers that featured spells at the Nou Camp but they were also team-mates at Feyenoord between 1995 and 1997 when the Dutchman was at the end of his career.

However a key factor behind the pair linking up at the Nou Camp again is partially due to their mutual relationship with agency Wasserman.

Koeman has all but been confirmed as Barcelona’s next manager after Quique Setien’s exit

Larsson enjoyed a two-year spell at Barcelona between 2004 and 2006, scoring 19 goals

After leaving Celtic in 2004, Larsson joined Barca where over the next two seasons he would score 19 goals in 59 games to help the club win the Champions League as well as LaLiga twice.

The former Sweden international is expected to be named as one of Koeman’s main coaches in his backroom staff.

Alfred Schreuder is expected to become the assistant manager as Barcelona look to find a way out of one of their biggest recent crises.
