Lautaro Martinez is set to end speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Inter Milan within the next few days.

However, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is adamant that Martinez will sign a new deal and described him as ‘the future of Inter.’

Marotta told La Gazetta Dello Sport: ‘We are going to announce his extension within ten days, he is the future of Inter and we want to keep him at the club.’

Previous reports indicated that Martinez will sign a five-year deal.

So far this season Martinez has an impressive return of five goals in six Serie A appearances.

There had been suggestions that Martinez would leave Inter but the club didn’t want to lose another key player with Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi having already departed in the same transfer window to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Having commenced his senior career at Racing Club, Martinez signed for Inter in 2018.

He helped Inter to win the Serie A title last season and he also enjoyed success on the international stage with Argentina as he won the Copa America.

Tying Martinez down for the long term would represent a major boost for Inter, with the 24-year-old likely to be one of the most prominent strikers in world football for some time.

Martinez, who has scored five goals in Serie A this season, was linked with Arsenal and Spurs

Tottenham had been linked with Martinez when it appeared that Harry Kane could leave the club.

Meanwhile, it is possible that Arsenal may look to bring in a high-profile striker in the near future with Alexandre Lacazette in the final year of his contract and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling for consistency.

However, it appears that the Gunners will have to look elsewhere as Martinez seems poised to remain at Inter.
