Marcelo Bielsa will turn his attentions elsewhere in his search for a centre-back after it emerged Leeds United were not prepared to pay £13million for Omar Colley. The Elland Road club were apparently interested in signing the Sampdoria man – but not at the current asking price.
Leeds are looking to further strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline at the end of this month.
They have already bolstered their defence this summer with the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona, while midfielder Jack Harrison made his loan move from Manchester City permanent after already enjoying three seasons in Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson has arrived from Valerenga to provide back-up for Illan Meslier, who was one of the best stoppers in the top flight last season.
Leeds impressed in their first season back in the Premier League since they were relegated in 2004.
After a shaky start, during which they appeared defensively frail, Bielsa shored up his backline and made his side much more difficult to break down.

By the end of the season, Leeds were a ferocious force and secured a ninth-placed finish.
Bielsa will be looking to improve on that debut performance this time around and knows he may need further reinforcements if his side are to continue their progress.
According to Club Doria 46, Leeds were believed to be interested in Gambia international Colley, who played 29 league games for Sampdoria last season.
But the price appears to be putting the Yorkshire club off and they haven’t yet tabled a bid for the 28-year-old.

West Ham are reportedly also monitoring Colley, but Leeds may now look for an alternative centre-back to help them improve on the 54 Premier League goals they conceded last season.
Bielsa has worked wonders at Elland Road after joining the club three years ago.
Leeds narrowly missed out on Championship promotion in his first season at the helm but stormed to the title the season after before mixing it with the best in the top flight.
And one man who thinks the club have done well to hang on to their manager is former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara.
“He needs to be at a big club,” O’Hara told talkSPORT last month. “He needs to be at a club like Barcelona, let’s be honest.”
“I’m not saying Leeds aren’t a big club and I’m not saying Bielsa needs to leave – I’m saying he should be at a club like Barcelona.
“He’s a great manager and Leeds are very lucky to have him.
“I think he has a sort of love affair with that club, the town and the fans. They all love him and I think he loves them.
“But if someone like Barcelona, Real Madrid or PSG come knocking, I’m sorry, you’re not staying at Leeds United – you’re going.”
