Lindelof opens up on dressing room reaction to Sancho with players ‘fed up’

Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat

Victor Lindelof has played down talk of the Manchester United dressing room turning against Jadon Sancho after his public spat with manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils defender has opened up on the squad’s reaction to the saga ahead of the resumption of the club season this week.

There is a sense of the unknown heading into showdown talks between Sancho and Ten Hag this week after an explosive start to the international break.

Sancho’s exclusion for the trip to Arsenal last time out sparked a reaction that has left the 23-year-old’s Old Trafford future in doubt.

Ten Hag admitted that he snubbed the United No 25 for the 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium due to poor training performances.

But shortly after his post-match comments, Sancho released a social media statement questioning the Dutchman’s comments, claiming he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ for United’s on-field struggles.

On Friday, ESPN reported that the Red Devils dressing room were ‘fed up’ with Sancho’s behaviour and wasn’t surprised by his reaction to Ten Hag’s frank comments.

However, while on international duty with Sweden, Lindelof suggested the situation had been blown out of proportion by the media storm and supporter concerns.

“In a club like United, there is always very, very much written about and always will be. Regardless of what happens, they try to make it as big as possible, and it makes headlines,” Lindelof told Sport Bladet.

“But for us players, it’s calm. Of course, we’ve gone out and played four games and got two slightly worse results, but otherwise, we don’t think too much about it. We are a tight group with a good feeling.

“That’s how it is when you play at the highest level. There will always be people who want to like and write and things like that. But for my own part, it has been calm.”

Ten Hag may need Sancho in the coming weeks after United announced on Sunday that Antony will delay his return to Carrington.

The 23-year-old has been accused of domestic abuse by three former girlfriends in Brazilian media, which he has strongly denied online and in a TV interview.

And he has mutually agreed to stay away from the United first team while he addresses the allegations made against him.

Lindelof is expected to continue his starting role when the season resumes with a home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, with Raphael Varane injured.
