Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona could signal the start of a transfer merry-go-round.

The Catalan giants would be forced to sign a replacement to play alongside Antoine Griezmann with Luis Suarez also set to depart, and that could involve Premier League champions Liverpool.

Should Barcelona come in for Sadio Mane then the Reds might sell up and go all out for Jadon Sancho, whom Borussia Dortmund would be willing to sell should their valuation be met this summer.

That will force Manchester United into an alternative deal following their interest in the young Englishman, and Daily Star Sport are on hand to analyse what might happen over the next few weeks.

Messi to City

City are huge favourites to sign Messi this summer thanks to his previously close relationship with Pep Guardiola.

The 33-year-old, who is widely considered to be the best player of all time, is set to find a new challenge after spending the entirety of his career so far in Spain, but Guardiola would offer some home comfort.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner could cost the club either nothing or £600m, but the player is determined to leave for free which would give him a wider choice of destinations.

The deal would put City in the ascendancy after they missed out on a third consecutive league title, and it would give them a huge boost in their Champions League pursuit.

Mane to Barcelona

Should Messi move on this summer, Barcelona will need to make a huge statement in picking a replacement.

Ronald Koeman is ready to lead a massive rebuild at the club after telling Suarez that he will be moved on over the next few weeks, and Mane would offer a dangerous threat in his debut season.

In another twist, Mane played 75 times under Koeman during his time with Southampton, and could fancy a new challenge after winning the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Spain thanks to his consistent performances in England, and Jurgen Klopp might in turn be forced to find a replacement of his own.

Sancho to Liverpool

Should Liverpool receive a hefty fee for the services of Mane, they could reinvest in 20-year-old Sancho.

The England winger has made his name as one of the best creative talents in world football over the past two Bundesliga seasons, and he would offer a platform to build for the future.

Although United still retain an interest, they do not want to match the asking price of £107m, which would give their bitter rivals the chance to step in and agree a deal.

Sancho has scored 30 goals and laid on 38 assists in his 78 appearances in the German top flight, but appears to be happy at Dortmund despite rumours surrounding his future.

Bailey to Man Utd

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United miss out on a deal for Sancho, they are certain to find a cheaper alternative.

As well as looking at Ousmane Dembele, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Leon Bailey in the past.

The 23-year-old Jamaica international would be allowed to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer after a difficult season, but Solskjaer could see his potential as a reason for a move.

Bailey has managed 24 goals across his three full seasons in Germany after leaving Genk, and could be available for under £30m which would save United plenty of cash to strengthen in other areas.
