Liverpool announce pre-season Anfield double-header against Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna next month in front of 75 per cent capacity crowd, with club set to pay tribute to former player Michael Robinson after his death last year

Liverpool have announced they will play two pre-season friendlies at Anfield next month in front of their largest crowd since March 2020.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will take on Athletic Club and CA Osasuna in front of a 75 per cent capacity crowd to round off their pre-season schedule.  

Liverpool have also stated that the game against Osasuna will be played in tribute to Michael Robinson – who passed away in April 2020.

Robinson – who played for both Liverpool and Osasuna – died after a long battle against cancer.

The former Republic of Ireland international, who became a famous football pundit in Spain, revealed he had metastatic cancer in December 2018.  

Robinson won the First Division, League Cup and European Cup Treble with the Reds in 1984 and also played in the 1983 FA Cup final for Brighton.

After his retirement from football, Robinson forged a career as a pundit in Spanish TV and his analysis clearly left an impression of a number of the country’s famous sporting stars. 

Tennis ace Rafael Nadal shared a picture of himself and Robinson on Instagram following the footballer’s passing.

The accompanying caption read: ‘We woke up with the sad news of the death of one of our own. You were the one who always made us happy about sport. We are grateful to you. A hug and all the encouragement to your family. #Youwillneverwalkalone’.      

The game against Osasuna will round-up Liverpool’s pre-season schedule after traveling across Austria playing fixtures against FC Wacker Innsbruck, VfB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz and Hertha BSC.
