Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirms Caicedo agreement as transfer edges closer

Premier League season preview: Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that reaching a British record transfer agreement to sign Moises Caicedo was ‘unexpected’. The Brighton midfielder is reportedly due on Merseyside to complete the move on Friday, providing personal terms can be thrashed out quickly.

The Reds stole in at the last minute on Thursday night, when Brighton are believed to have held a secret auction. Chelsea had led the way throughout the summer, but Liveprool trumped them with an eye-watering £110million bid.

With the news circulating quickly on Friday morning, Klopp confirmed that an agreement had been reached during his pre-Chelsea press conference. “The fee with the club is agreed,” stated the German. “We will see what that means.”

Klopp went on to explain that breaking the £105m British transfer record set by Declan Rice to Arsenal was not necessarily something he foresaw earlier this summer.

“We aren’t a club with endless resources and we didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer,” he added. “Then it happened.” The Liverpool boss refused to comment on when Caicedo’s medical would take place.
