Liverpool ‘close’ to sudden £60m Diaz transfer as ideal stand-in for AFCON stars

Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Luis Diaz from Porto as the Reds brace for a month without Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.

Jurgen Klopp will be without his two stars, who have both jetted off to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

And the Colombian has been high on his radar after impressing against Liverpool in the Champions League group stages, according to The Sun.

While Klopp would have preferred to wait until the summer, the loss of Salah and Mane could force him to act now.

Diaz has a £67million release clause, but Liverpool are hoping to land him for less.

Diaz has been impressively domestically for Porto in the Primeira Liga this season with 12 goals.

That total has already eclipsed his tally for the 20/21 campaign, where he found the net 11 times and provided six assists across the course of the season.

Diaz was also part of Colombia's Copa America campaign, and Los Cafeteros progressed all the way to the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Argentina.

The 24-year-old finished on four goals, the same as Lionel Messi.

The Red's are also reportedly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach's Swiss midfielder Dennis Zakaria.

Zakaria's contract is up at the end of the season, and BMG could be ready to cash in on the star.

However, Klopp will face competition for his signature from Manchester City and Manchester United.
