Liverpool dealt Fabinho injury blow as star misses Tottenham to worsen Jurgen Klopp crisis

Tottenham v Liverpool: Premier League preview

Fabinho has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League match away to Tottenham tonight due to a minor muscle injury. The Brazilian’s absence adds to the defensive woes of Jurgen Klopp. The Reds are already without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez due to serious knee injuries.

Fabinho has been playing out of position in defence in Van Dijk and Gomez’s absence.

However, Liverpool will have to do without the 27-year-old for the trip to Tottenham.

Captain Jordan Henderson slots into the backline alongside Joel Matip.

BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher gave an update on Fabinho at the start of their programme.

Fletcher said: “We’re led to believe it’s nothing major. A tweak that he’s picked up in training that means he can’t play.”

Klopp’s side head into the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without a win in their last five Premier League matches.

The Reds have not scored a goal in each of their last four league outings.

Liverpool are fifth in the table, seven points behind leaders Manchester City having played the same amount of games.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Klopp insisted his side would not give up in pursuit of back-to-back titles.

“We will give our absolute everything this season,” Klopp said.

“It’s not about defending the title or whatever, it’s about winning football games – it was always about this.

“This defending or attacking the title, that’s more something you have to say because you ask me.

“This club and this team has the potential to fight for the title.

“We will see if we can make that happen, if we can get close again this year. If not, we will try next year.”

However, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy says Klopp must sign a centre-back before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Murphy says it is a concern that a player in that position has not been signed when the need is so obvious.

“The small area of concern is the lack of transfer activity when they’re so desperately in need,” the pundit said on talkSPORT.

“I don’t think you should go out and buy for the sake of it. If you can’t get the ones you want in then you don’t do it.

“Defensively they’re not right, are they? That’s for sure. I know they’re not scoring, but you could see [in the FA Cup defeat] defensively they’re not right when Matip isn’t there.

“So I hope for everybody’s sake they do something in the last few days of the window, give everyone a boost and then a decent result at Tottenham can get them back on track.

“It’s a difficult time for them. It’s a weird season.

“There’s one thing for sure, Jurgen Klopp’s got plenty of in the bank… I don’t mean money, I mean credit.”
