Liverpool fans think Nunez has boots on wrong feet after ‘miss of the century’

Liverpool fans have joked Darwin Nunez is wearing his boots on the wrong feet after he produced the 'miss of the century' in the Europa League.

The Reds beat Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in an unconvincing performance on Thursday evening. Jurgen Klopp's side found the net twice at Anfield – but it should have been more if Nunez had brought his shooting boots.

Nunez fluffed his lines when Mohamed Salah fired the ball across the face of the goal. Any touch from the Uruguayan would have seemingly sent the ball into the back of the net – but he managed to turn the ball wide, to the disbelief of fans.

"Nunez must have his boots on the wrong feet," one fan joked. While a second shared: "People seem to think he’s having some sort of resurgence yet he’s still missing sitters every week!"

"Every game without fail he does something hilarious," a third joked. And another added: "That is a contender for the miss of the 21st century!"

Klopp was as shocked as the Liverpool fans and he held his arms out as cameras cut to the Reds boss after the miss.

And speaking after the game, Klopp said: "I liked the start and the result. And the goals and chances we created. I didn’t like that we lost rhythm after 20-25 minutes. It’s very difficult to keep the rhythm in a game like this but it is very important. We should have scored more."
