Liverpool have been dealt a potential transfer blow in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfield dynamo Jude Bellingham as Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has insisted that the youngster’s time in Germany is “far from over”.

Speculation linking the English teenager with a move to Anfield has intensified in recent weeks following Bellingham’s red-hot form, with the starlet making headlines earlier this week by appearing to mock those rumours with a cheeky post online which was promptly deleted.

The 18-year-old has exceeded all expectations since his £25million switch to Germany last summer and has quickly flourished into one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young stars.

Bellingham has also muscled his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans in the England senior squad to cap a sensational year for the Birmingham City academy graduate.

And his meteoric rise both domestically and internationally has captured the attention of a host of European heavyweights who are all preparing to scrap it out for his signature.

But those clubs, including Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, look set to be left disappointed after Zorc shut down any talk of an imminent move.

Zorc told Sport Bild: “When we signed Jude last year, many top clubs were interested in him. He consciously chose BVB and the concept we presented to him. His development at Dortmund is far from over.”

Although Dortmund have made their move to ensure Bellingham remains in Germany with them for now, Liverpool shouldn’t be too downhearted.

The Bundesliga club have already proven on numerous occasions over the years that they are willing to part with players for the right sum and at the right time – which means that a deal for Bellingham remains on the table for the future, even if Dortmund may distance themselves from it right now.

Whenever that time does come, Dortmund will certainly loathe losing their midfield prodigy.

Bellingham has taken to the Bundesliga like a duck to the water and already has nine goal involvements in just 16 games with this term.

The youngster has also ran the show and stolen headlines in Europe, with spectacular goals and man-of-the-match-winning displays in the Champions League for Marco Rose’s side.

Bellingham’s stunning development with Dortmund means any potential suitor will be forced to part with a much more significant sum than the £25m that the German side paid for his services last year.

And Zorc admitted that the entire club has been taken aback by Bellingham’s rapid evolution over the past 12 months.

“He is very clear-headed and has a very good environment, which helps him to handle his rapid development in just the right way,” Zorc added.

“The fact that Jude is already showing such consistency in his performances was not to be expected when we signed him,” added the Dortmund boss.

“Especially in recent months, he has made another leap forward and is now an extremely important player.”
