Liverpool: Salah's all smiles amid transfer talk
Liverpool have reportedly already held talks with the agent of Lille defender Sven Botman. The young Dutchman only arrived at the Ligue 1 club earlier this summer from Ajax for a fee of £9million but they could be set to net around three times that amount from any potential sale.
Lille currently sit top of the Ligue 1 table ahead of Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain, much to the good work of their recruitment team before the start of the campaign.
Botman looks well poised to become the next star to make them millions, following in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen and Nicolas Pepe.
In Holland, many were left surprised by Ajax’s decision to let him go for so cheap, something that has since come back to haunt them.
That’s because according to Foot Mercato, Liverpool are circling and have held talks over a potential deal.
The report claims that the Reds touched base with Botman’s agent back in November, to get an idea of the figures that would be involved in a potential deal.
Lille are looking for around £45million for the 20-year-old but would consider offers in the region of £27m.
Inter Milan have already made an enquiry for the player but the deal is there to be done if Liverpool decide they want to sign Botman.
Botman is not the only Lille star on Liverpool’s radar though, with former Swansea loanee Renato Sanches currently under consideration as a potential replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
The Premier League champions are currently waiting for a final decision on Wijnaldum’s future, with his contract set to expire next summer.
Sanches has been earmarked as a potential option and the collapse of Ligue 1’s lucrative TV deal means Premier League clubs could be set to raid the French top flight in upcoming transfer windows.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to reassess Liverpool’s centre-back options in January, following long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
At first, it looked a certainty that the Reds would delve into the transfer market but the return of Fabinho has helped Liverpool cope with their defensive injury crisis admirably.
Liverpool appear to be well-stocked in reserve following impressive contributions from youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.
There are also several other names on Liverpool’s shortlist, should they decide to bring in defensive reinforcements.
RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is one of the names on the agenda, with Manchester United also keen.
The Frenchman has a release clause in the region of £38million that comes into play next summer.
It makes any potential deal difficult in January as Leipzig hold all of the cards at the negotiating table.
Schalke’s Ozan Kabak is another option and the Turkish international is highly likely to leave the club, who sit bottom of the Bundesliga table.
They are yet to win a game this season and are currently starved of cash ahead of their impending relegation to the second tier of German football.
