Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham may be difficult for the Reds to land next summer, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly insistent that he is not for sale. The German giants can be remarkably stubborn when it comes to transfer dealings, as demonstrated by Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho which took them over 12 months to complete.

Bellingham was hugely impressive as he started England’s 4-0 victory over Andorra on Sunday.

Such was the speed of his ascendence in the senior game, he only had time to notch four caps for the England under-21s before being called up to the senior team, where he has already earned eight caps and been to Euro 2020.

Since coming through at Birmingham City, the 18-year-old has taken his talents to Dortmund where he continues to impress.

According to SPORT1, Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder is very real, as is Dortmund’s unwillingness to sell the talented youngster.

The confirmation comes amid reports that Liverpool are preparing an £80million bid to test BVB’s resolve next summer.

Unfortunately for the Reds, when Bellingham moved to the Bundesliga he signed a contract until 2025 with no release clause included.

However, he is so young that even after what could turn out to be a five-year spell in Germany, the midfielder would still only be 22-years-old. To put that into context, he would only just be ineligible for the PFA Young Player of the Year award upon his return.

When it comes to Dortmund’s star players, their years of developing talent and selling them on has put them in a financial position whereby if they don’t want to sell, they don’t have to.

As a 6ft 1in teenager who is quickly developing into a capable midfield general, Bellingham certainly fits into that category.

That may not stop Liverpool from trying, however, although others are sure to match their interest with the likes of United also linked.

Having not replaced Gini Wijnaldum who joined PSG earlier this summer, there could be a spot ready and waiting for him at Anfield if nobody else has convincingly staked their claim by 2022.

It remains to be seen whether the likes of Naby Keita or Harvey Elliott could mark their territory this season, but Reds captain Jordan Henderson has already been extremely complementary about Bellingham’s talent.

“He looks ready to me, even at such a young age. He looks ready to be playing in the big games,” he said.

“I watch him for Dortmund as well and I think the way he performs there is outstanding.

“Against Andorra, he really showed what he can bring, so in over a year down the line, he is only going to get better and so would look to have a big influence at the World Cup to be sure.

“I am a big fan of Jude, I think he looks a fantastic player. For somebody of such a young age, he shows real maturity both on and off the field.”
