Liverpool have reached out to Red Bull Salzburg over the possibility of signing Karim Adeyemi, but the forward would prefer to join a Bundesliga club over the Reds, according to reports. Adeyemi has emerged as one of Germany’s most exciting young players in recent years, earning links to some of the planet’s biggest clubs in the process.

The 19-year-old has made a flying start to the new season with Salzburg, scoring 11 goals from 16 appearances in all competitions.

He played on 39 occasions throughout the previous campaign and was rewarded for his efforts with a debut call-up for Germany earlier this year.

Adeyemi went on to score on his international debut, helping the four-time World Cup winners to thrash Armenia by six goals to nil in a World Cup qualifier last month.

Liverpool are believed to be harbouring a keen interest in the forward as Jurgen Klopp weighs up the idea of a new option at the top of the pitch.

It is said that Adeyemi has been added to the club’s list of January targets and would likely compete with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota for a striking role if he ends up joining the Reds.

However, it seems as though he could opt to snub the Anfield club in favour of a move to Germany.

Liverpool have already enquired about Adeyemi’s availability, but the player would rather try his luck in the Bundesliga than seal an immediate switch to Merseyside, according to transfer expert Marc Behrenbeck.

“We know that all three top clubs from Germany – Bayern [Munich], Dortmund and Leipzig – spoke to the Adeyemi side,” Behrenbeck told Sky Sport Germany.

“There were specific discussions in which figures were exchanged. But a heavyweight has already reported from the Premier League, even if the trend is clearly towards the Bundesliga.

“There are also inquiries from England. Liverpool recently asked again. Poker is open.

“It is also clear that Adeyemi’s career plan includes taking the next step in the Bundesliga, before he might go abroad again.”

Behrenback went on to insist that Adeyemi will no longer be a Salzburg player next season, with the forward likely to command a transfer fee in the region of £34million.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can tempt him into sealing a Premier League move, with the player seemingly hell-bent on joining a Bundesliga club.

He recently claimed that he would jump at the chance to play for Bayern after he was let go by the German heavyweights as a youngster back in 2011.

“If [Bayern] made me an offer, I think I would choose that path,” Adeyemi told Marca.

“I want to show them what I can do, who I am and that it was a mistake to let me go. That motivates me.”
