Liverpool ‘open talks’ with Thiago Alcantara as Klopp accelerates transfer move

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks and made official contact over a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara.

Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of the player and a move has been touted for several weeks with Thiago pulling the plug on talks with the German side.

With his new contract falling through and the midfielder demanding a new challenge, all eyes were on whether Liverpool could afford to move for the £30million-rated star.

Bayern have been adamant they are under no pressure to sell with Thiago still having a year left on his contract.

But it seems that Liverpool have made their move and stepped up their transfer business with Bild claiming official contact has been made.

After holding initial talks, the Reds will now look to thrash out a deal to hand Klopp his second summer signing.

The Premier League champions added Kostas Tsimikas earlier this week.

The left-back arrives from Olympiacos and will offer back-up to Andy Robertson in defence.

But the arrival of Thiago could see the Reds strengthen their formidable starting line-up further and add a new dimension to their side.

With Georginio Wijnaldum’s future looking uncertain amid stalling contract talks, Thiago could be a shrewd addition with Klopp keen to act fast before other interested parties steal a march.

Speaking earlier this week, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick told Thiago he should head to the Premier League.

“As a person and as an athlete, I can understand him,” Flick told Sport Bild.

"Thiago played for Barcelona, and seven years for Bayern.

“Now he wants a new challenge, which in my opinion must be the Premier League.”
