Liverpool star Joe Gomez vows to return ‘better and stronger’ after knee injury

Liverpool ace Joe Gomez is determined to return “better and stronger” from his knee injury.

The Reds defender is in a battle to play again this season having suffered the blow while on England duty.

He has undergone successful surgery with Liverpool refusing to put a timeline on the 23-year-old’s recovery.

Though Gomez has issued a statement on social media and is not letting himself get down as he wrote: “The road to recovery has already begun.

“I’ve been her before, I know what it takes & I’ll be back better and stronger than ever.

“I’m obviously gutted, but this is part of God’s plan and I believe everything happens for a reason.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their well wishes and messages of support.

“I’m focused on my recovery and supporting my team mates in every way I can. See you soon.”

On the injury, England boss Gareth Southgate had said: “Unfortunately the injury was so unique in how it happened, we know it was just a consequence of the number of games really.

“Wherever he had been, there is a chance that could have happened. So, we [Southgate and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp] were on the same page. We think the welfare of the players is critical.

“It’s not a good situation. I don’t see him being involved in the games with us, that’s for sure.

“My immediate thoughts are with him because he’s had some difficulties with injury in the past, so we’re hoping as much as we possibly can and praying that it’s not going to be a long-term one.

“Joe is a good example. We know the load he’s had in the last six weeks so we gave him and the lads who’d been involved in European matches an extra day’s recovery and yet still something like this has happened.”
