Liverpool forward Luis Diaz was reunited with his kidnapped father for the first time since he was rescued.

Luis Manuel Diaz and his wife Cilenis Marulanda were both kidnapped at a petrol station near their home in the town of Barrancas on October 28. While Marulanda was freed later that night, Diaz Senior remained a hostage until he was eventually freed on November 9.

Colombian investigators have since arrested four men on suspicion of being involved in the kidnapping. As the investigation continues, Diaz, 26, was finally able to see his father for the first time since he was kidnapped.

While he missed Liverpool's 3-0 home victory over Nottingham Forest and the 2-1 away win over Bournemouth, Diaz came off the bench to score a vital equaliser in the club's 1-1 away draw with Luton Town. After he scored, he revealed a shirt emblazoned with the message, 'libertad para papa' which translates to 'freedom for my father'.

He also released a statement of his own to ask the kidnappers to release his father. His wish came true on November 9, as Diaz was released into the safe hands of a member of the United Nations committee from a helicopter in the jungle he was being held hostage.

He was kidnapped by guerillas of the National Liberation Army of Colombia. When he arrived home, Diaz said: "Thank you to all the people of Barrancas, to La Guajira and to Colombia for this great support they have given to my family.

"Thank you all, much love to you all."
