Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk forced off with injury after brutal Jordan Pickford tackle

Virgil van Dijk was forced off injured early for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby with Everton after a collision with Jordan Pickford. That was after the Reds took an early lead thanks to Sadio Mane who hammered home from close range.

It looked like a penalty could be awarded to the Reds as VAR looked at the incident but Van Dijk was offside before Pickford’s tackle.

Joe Gomez replaced the Holland international and Everton drew level shortly afterwards thanks to a Michael Keane header from a corner.

Van Dijk hobbled off and to the make-shift Liverpool dressing room at Goodison Park looking downbeat.

The Reds will now wait to see the extent of the damage and whether the central defender will miss any further matches.
