Liverpool-supporting childhood pals reunited after 50 years due to ticket fluke
Two school friends were remarkably reunited at a Liverpool game – only 51 years after losing touch.
James McCarthy and Colin McCabe, both 67, were best friends at school after the pair were made to sit in alphabetical order. Unfortunately, they lost contact in 1972 after Colin moved to London at the age of 16.
However, to the amazement of many, the pair enjoyed a miraculous reunion at Liverpool's Europa League clash against LASK at Anfield last week. Their 50-year plus separation wasn't without the want of finding each other as James made various attempts locate Colin but to no avail.

But Thursday's (November 30) fixture saw their heart-warming reunion come to fruition as James told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I walked in and this guy is sitting there. We don't recognise each other because it's been 51 years and we were 16 last time [we saw each other]," he said.
"We were just chit-chatting in the first half and at half time, I said, 'Do you do any social media?' They then saw each other's names and profiles on X (formerly known as Twitter). He said, 'Did you go to Cardinal Allen Grammar School?' and I go, 'Yeah' and he says, 'It's me, Colin.'"

He called the moment "unbelievable" as he added: "I looked at his face… and I thought yeah, I recognise him." Despite his move to London, Colin eventually made the move back to Liverpool and admitted he initially didn't recognise his childhood friend.
"I didn't recognise him. It was his name that I recognised when he showed me something on Twitter but even then I never thought it would actually be him," he said. James said they were "talking away" throughout the second half in what was a comfortable 4-0 victory for the Reds.

It was a memorable day for the pair and a beautiful continuation of a friendship spanning decades as they already plans to meet up again after exchanging numbers.
James jokingly said that they're "still as stupid as ever" before continuing: "It'll just be lovely to have such a good catch-up. Honestly I've been so happy… it was meant to be."
