Liverpool are set to bolster their defensive options after a series of injuries to their centre-backs.
The Reds have stuttered slightly in their quest to retain the Premier League title, after draws with West Brom and Newcastle and their defence has been highlighted by many as the area most in need of reinforcements.
That is because Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all sidelined, with manager Jurgen Klopp forced to select youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips, as well as midfielder Fabinho, in his backline.
And that means Klopp is set to dip into the January transfer market as he looks for more experienced defenders.
Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.
Reds ‘open talks’ with Botman
Lille defender Sven Botman’s agent reportedly expects Liverpool to make a bid for his client once the January window opens.
The French club are understood to be willing to sell the player for less than £20million, who has impressed since his summer move from Ajax.
Duncan Castles, speaking on Reach PLC's Transfer Window Podcast, claims that Liverpool have begun discussions over a January move for the 20-year-old.
“My understanding is that Lille would be willing to sell the player probably for twice and a little bit more what they paid Ajax for him in the summer,” Castles said.
“My information is that they have been calling and speaking to Botman’s agent.
“Botman’s agent likes the sounds of the conversations and believes there is a strong possibility that they will decide to make an offer for the player in January.”
Liverpool show interest in Torino defender
Italian journalist Matteo Pedrosi has claimed that the Reds are interested in bringing in centre-back Gleison Bremer from Torino in January.
Pedrosi reports that Liverpool are keen on the defender but have not yet made a real offer, with Everton are also in the race.
The Brazilian impressed as Torino secured their Serie A status last season, although they currently find themselves bottom of the Italian top-flight.
Bremer’s young age and relatively low value, at just under £5.5m according to transfermarkt, could also appeal.
Arsenal providing competition for Liverpool target
Liverpool are reportedly facing competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal for Roger Ibanez.
The Roma defender is currently on loan from Atalanta, with the move set to be made permanent in the summer.
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the 22-year-old, who has made 14 appearances in Serie A this season.
However, Calciomercato, cited by the Mail, claim that Arsenal have also enquired about the Brazilian, with Mikel Arteta seeking reinforcements.
